Description:This document from March 1907 shows the monthly profit account from February to March 1907 at the Trentham Hotel. The accounts give details of the amount of 'Ale and Stout' and other products such as cordial and tobacco sold by the hotel at 'Cost Price' during this period. The column next to this provides details of the 'estimated profit' which the hotel had made by selling these products, in relation to their 'lowest retail price'. The document also provides an insight into the hotel's expenditure. The hotel paid monthly wages to staff amounting to nineteen pounds, eleven shillings and eleven pence in March 1907. The establishment also provided food for staff which came to eighteen pounds for the same period. Other provisions for the hotel were also purchased, including coal, gas and water to ensure that the hotel maintained a high standard of accomodation for its guests. The net profit made by the hotel each month was calculated by deducting the payments out from the gross profits made on selling beverages and tobacco. In March 1907 the net proft amounted to five pounds, four shillings and ten pence.
