Description:The scrapbook of newspaper cuttings relating to the Turkish relief campaign provides an insight into how the scheme was operated. Following the Stafford House Committee's initial meeting, a printed appeal by the Committee appeared in The Morning Post for Wednesday December 13th 1876 asking the general public for donations. The appeal, featured above, states that the Committee was established ‘for the purpose of receiving and applying subscriptions and gifts of clothing and other useful articles in the Hospital and in the Field’ and invites the public to donate the same. The printed report states that the Committee’s ‘first appeal to the public for subscriptions’ brought in a sum of £4, 515.
