Description:Another letter in the Sutherland Papers from Sir William’s brother, Edward Gower (d. 1662) shows that the family were closely involved, both socially and in business. Edward was involved with training William’s horses to be efficient on his Estates. A letter from Edward dated August 13th 1671 reads ‘this last weeke I see your horse give a heat which he did with more Currage & strenth then ever I knew him doe, & I am confident he was never soe well in his feete & his body finer’. Edward also comments that William’s ‘geldinge is mightily improved & may for anythinge I can yet see to the contrary make a very good dayworker’.
