Description:In another letter to his son William Sir Thomas comments on his own aging self, reflecting his increasing preoccupation with his own mortality as he grew older. He notes ‘It is very true I finde those decayes in selfe, which shew me, that my house of clay is ruinous, & can not Last Long’. He adds poetically ‘I see nothing in this world which make me in Love with it: If your affairs were setled & your sister well disposed, I hope I should willingly submit to returne to my God who sent me hither’.

The personal comments about health, age, family relations and perceptions of the world in Sir Thomas's letters provide a fascinating insight into the Gower family and perceptions of life in the late seventeenth century.
