Description:Sir Thomas Gower’s correspondence includes a number of letters from the 1st Earl of Bath, whose daughter Jane married Sir Thomas’s son Sir William Leveson Gower (1636-1691) in 1669. In one letter dated February 13th 1671 the Earl refers to Sir Thomas as ‘a person I doe soe much esteeme’, reflecting his high regard for Sir Thomas Gower. Indeed, the letter suggests that Sir Thomas was highly thought of and relied upon by his family. Bath writes that ‘it addes very much more to my trouble to heare of your indisposition heartily wishing a speedy recovery of your health’. He expresses his hope that Sir Thomas ‘may long enjoy’ good health ‘both for your owne sake & for that of your children & frends who doe soe much need & & alawyes will your prudent advice & assistance in all their affayres’.
