Description:Many of Rachel’s letters to Sir Richard Leveson concern family affairs, particularly those relating to health and employment. In a letter dated 13th July 1648 she writes thanking him for his letter and stating that she is ‘very glad to heare you are past soe daingerous & troublesone desease, I hope you will take care in ordering your dyett, for feare of a relapps’. Rachel notes ‘I cannot get away my cough which I tooke with a cold at Easter, but its much better and mends every day’. Rachel’s letter also includes a few lines about her family and tell us about the family’s involvement in overseas trade. She writes ‘my daughter Bromley hath a sonn came from Virginia, hee hath bine there almost fower yeares and there is noe profit to be had there Trading is soe poore, he is a very good boy, and willing to doe anything his Mother would have him, if she can find noe better Imployment for him this yeare next Spring he goes to the East Indies’. Rachel's letters which discuss family affairs tell us about the concerns of people living during this period, and their perceptions of the world they lived in.
