Description:A similar letter written in December 1645 states that Sir Richard was to be released for another 14 days. The document states:

‘For that it hath pleased Sir William Brereton to give mee liberty to stay upon my parole at Trenthom fowerteene dayes after the date here of’. Again, Sir Richard must ‘promise upon the word of a Gentleman that I will returne to Namptwich and render my selfe a prisoner as formerly within fowerteene dayes’.

The Sutherland Papers contain a number of legal documents relating to Sir Richard Leveson’s imprisonment, his bail, his parole and his delinquency fine. These documents tell us a great deal about the enforcement of law and political strategy during this period.
