Description:As well as managing the fourth Duke of Sutherland’s cars, Watson was responsible for the Stables themselves and paid much attention to health and safety matters.

In one letter to Simpson he writes that he was ‘after enquiries of opinion that the ordinary stable parafin lamp with care will be quite as safe for the Motor Garage at Dunrobin'. Watson notes that he was ‘undecided’ about ‘newer designs’.

Watson informs Simpson ‘there is a New Kind of Petrol burner’ where the ‘petrol tank is placed out-side of building and laid on the Gass’. He adds ‘the bulk of danger is outside, but still we have the Naked light inside’, remarking that he would make further enquiries.
