Date:8th of December 1660

Description:Samuel Terricke also wrote to Sir Richard’s steward at Trentham, John Langley. His letter to Langley featured above, also dated 8th December 1660, provides more details about his personal life. Terricke writes about his recent ill health, informing Langley that he had failed to write for ten days ‘by reson of a weekenesse in my left knee’. Terricke adds that he had not ‘been fourth’ of his chamber as his doctor ‘would nott prescribe mee Phisicke’ until ‘the swellinge was dispersed’. He asks Langley not to tell his wife about his illness, noting ‘nott a word of this to any haue writte my wife’ to prevent her worrying about him. He adds ‘I would nott her haue the least notice till I come my selfe to acquinte her’.

Although Terricke had failed to find a cook for Sir Richard, and the Canary Fleet had evaded him, he informs Langley that he had located some ‘pure Canary’ wine for Langley and Sir Richard which he had ‘packed up in a hamper to bee left with youre cosen’.
