Description:Henry Wright compiled a number of family trees for the dogs belonging to the estate, reflecting the importance of pedigree in dog breeding, particularly for working dogs. Many of the names which appear on the family tree relate to the dogs listed in Dunrobin Kennels, however, Wright also includes dogs not listed, such as ‘Flash’ who was a spaniel. Flash’s mother Nell belonged to a man named Mr. Banford, who had bred Nell with Sweep, who belonged to Captain Bridgewood. The dogs owned by the estate evidently had impeccable breeding from a close knit community made up of the Sutherland family’s wealthy associates.
