Description:The Collection includes the 1926 catalogue for ‘Rowntree & Co. Ltd.’, purveyors of ‘Cocoas, Chocolates & Confectionery’. The catalogue included ‘Chocolates and Novelties for Easter 1926’. Rowntrees sold a wide variety of cocoas, drinking chocolates, jellies, lime juice cordial and lemon squash, pastillies and clear gums.
Among their chocolates for Easter were a ‘decorated chocolate egg’ costing fourteen pence, the ‘satin egg’ which contained the ‘best quality chocolates’, costing six shillings and eight pence and a ‘chick on wheels’ which contained ‘assorted chocolates’. The chick cost four shillings and fourpence, whilst a ribboned choclate egg which contained assorted chocolates and was wrapped in foil cost only twelve pence.
Eggs were also supplied with egg cups, and also novelties such as a ‘chocolate cycle and side-car’. Rowntrees also manufactured an Easter assortment which contained ‘chocolate eggs, milk chocolate eggs, whipped cream eggs, eggs with chicks, milk chocolate chicks’ and ‘chocolate hens and ducks’.
