Date:1745
Description:In Richard Rhead’s Will made in 1813 he stated that he was a farmer in Hanchurch in the Parish of Trentham. As a tenant farmer on the Leveson-Gower family estates, Richard Rhead appears in the Annual Estate Accounts. These books record payments made out to tenants and tradesmen, including land tax and payments to men who were paid for agricultural produce ‘brought in’ by the estate. When did the Rhead family become tenants on the Trentham estate? An entry for Richard Rhead first appears in the estate accounts made in 1745. This Richard Rhead was the father of the Richard Rhead who died in 1813. Richard Rhead’s father appears to have moved to Butterton, near Trentham on the Leveson-Gower family estates between September 1744 and the June 1745. It is possible to suggest this based on information in the estate accounts. Richard’s name isn’t associated with Butterton in the accounts for September 1744, however, in June 1745 Richard was paid a year’s land tax for Butterton.
