Description:The image above shows an extract from a survey of ‘the Townships of Trentham Hanchurch &c the property of the Most Noble the Marquis of the County of Stafford’, made by the Uttoxeter surveyor Samuel Botham in 1809.

Botham’s survey surviving in the Sutherland Papers tells us that Richard Rhead was the tenant of substantial lands in Hanchurch including ‘Cliff’, ‘Hodge-ridding’, ‘Long Furlong’, ‘Far Hayes’, ‘New Croft’, ‘Broad Meadow’, ‘Ridges’, ‘Tunstalls’, ‘Cliff Meadow’, ‘Lower Cliff Meadow’ and ‘Upper cliff woody part’. The pages above are the second and third pages of a three page entry for Rhead's lands in Hanchurch.
