Description:‘An Inventory of the Paintings, Marble Busts &c., Library of Books, Prints &c. at Stafford House St James’s’ made in December 1833 suggests that Stafford House was elaborately decorated with artwork. Reflecting the collection of paintings housed in Cleveland House, the inventory for Stafford House lists paintings by Hogarth and Rubens including Rubens’ ‘The Holy Family’. In the ‘Gentlemen’s Rooms’ were paintings by Italian masters such as Guido, Castiglionie, and Van Goyen, and the ‘Dining Room’ housed Van Dyck’s ‘Portrait of the Earl of Arundel’ and Spado’s ‘Portrait of a Gentleman’.
