Description:The Duke’s Cleveland Gallery also contained works by ‘Lionardo da Vinci’. The Catalogue informs visitors that Da Vinci ‘was born near Florence in 1445, he was invited to France by Francis the 1st in whose arms he is said to have expired in 1520’. Describing the painting ‘No. 47 Head of a Young Female’, also ‘from the Orleans Gallery’, the commentary states ‘there is a very interesting & singular expression in the countenance & softness in the execution of this specimen of Lionardo da Vinci’.
