Description:Cleveland House housed many paintings by Lodivico Carracci of Bologna. The Catalogue describes the paintings in detail, examining the subject of the paintings and the artist’s technique. The Catalogue describes ‘A Descent from the Cross on Canvas’, another painting‘from the Orleans Gallery’, stating that it is ‘a remarkable specimen of the expression and colouring of Lodivico Carracci. It contains the figures of the dead Christ, with the three Maries, and St. John, and a Landscape in the distance. It belonged to the Duke of Modena’.
