Description:In a letter from March 6th 1944 Crawford tells Duchess Millicent that his wife was finding ‘this separation business most difficult.’ He writes that he has written to his wife Betsy informing her ‘that the Archbishop of York recently suggested a form of remarriage, or a service of rededication for couples long separated by the war. I asked her to marry me and am anxiously awaiting her reply!’.

Nathan Crawford’s last letter to Duchess Millicent is dated November 5th 1944 when he had been transferred to Bedfordshire. He states that he is pleased because ‘this is a Canadian squadron and I find the company much more congenial’.

He tells the Duchess that he had done a total of 43 trips, stating ‘I now have 12 more to do before I can get home to my nest in Canada’.
