Description:Following John Fish’s report into the building works at Cliveden, Mr. Roberts, who had been overseeing building work on the property, wrote to George Loch defending himself against allegations of negligence. In the letter dated 28th April 1860, Roberts states that the fireplaces in question were all constructed in his absence. He writes ‘had my assistant been as faithful at Cliveden as my assistants at Trentham all this trouble would not have had an existence’.
