Date:1891

Description:On 24th June 1891 Breary wrote to Henry Wright about other ‘big ventures’ in aeronautics. His letter refers to a man named Mr. Frost who was a member of the Society’s Council. Mr. Frost worked as a Cambridgeshire Magistrate but was an aeronautical enthusiast who had constructed his own aircraft. Breary had been to see the specimen and describes it to Wright in his letter as being thirty feet long. He writes ‘each artificial feather is arranged as in a particular type of Bird…he has attached a steam Engine but it is not powerful enough’. Many men, including the Duke of Sutherland, wanted to see the craft. However, Breary notes that the Duke would have ‘special privilege’ as an acquaintance of Maxim.
