Date:June 1891

Description:Mr. Breary wrote again to Henry Wright in June 1891 postponing the society’s ‘general meeting’ due to the ‘absence of Papers worthy of being read before the Society’. Breary wanted to postpone the meeting to late autumn when ‘Mr. Maxim’s great experiment for the purpose of obtaining flight’ would have taken place and ‘some results’ would have been ‘recorded’.

Breary describes Maxim’s experiment in detail, focussing on his intentions ‘to propel’ using ‘steam power’ a ‘tubular steel frame work’ which was ‘in dimensions of about 100 x 60 feet’. Maxim had already ‘expended’ £10,000 pounds on the construction of the aircraft.
