Trentham Gardens in the 1740s: Moving the Long Walk

Description:In addition to developments involving the bowling green and new lawns, the long walk which had formed part of George Plaxton’s canals was also removed. Estate Accounts for 1746-1747 state that in February 1747 Robert Williams was paid seventeen pounds and one shilling ‘on account of moveing the Long walk’. The accounts indicate that this extensive work took a considerable amount of time, with Williams being paid over twenty one pounds for the same work in June 1747.
