Description:The pages above describe rooms on the ground floor at Stafford House including the vestibule and the entrance hall. The Marquis of Stafford’s annotations refer to the use of Portland Stone in these areas. The document provides details about the design of the famous ‘Great Staircase’ which was the main feature of the ground floor in Stafford House. The design of the staircase required a great deal of consideration. The pages above tell us that it was made from ‘Portland Stone dotted with Black Marble’. The Marquis’s annotations reveal that he wanted a personal input into the design of the staircase, his notes stating ‘nothing to be done to the Mouldings of the staircase until Lord Stafford settles what they are to be’.
