Date:1836
Description:Amongst letters written by Haydon to the Duke of Sutherland are many sketches of paintings. One letter from 1836 includes a sketch of a painting for which Haydon was giving the Duke first ‘Refusal’. A similar sketch was found loose amongst the bundle of letters which appears to be a rough outline of the original arrangement for the painting.
