Date:1647

Description:A similar receipt features in the rent role of Francis Parkes for Wolverhampton from 1647 for ‘the sum of ten shillinge(s)’ which was given ‘to the use’ of the ‘usher in the Gramm[ar] Schole in Wolv[er]hampton’. The donation was ‘the gift’ of Sir Richard Leveson K[nigh]t’.

The receipts in these accounts indicate that the Leveson family paid an annual sum to support the Usher of Wolverhampton Grammar School, a practise which continued into the nineteenth century.
