Description:The various papers relating to investigations into the secret marriage of Francis and Elizabeth provide numerous accounts by different men and women about events surrounding the marriage. Amongst the people who were questioned about the marriage was Francis Coppinger himself. Francis was interrogated about his elopement, whether he stole his uncle’s horse to ride to London, and about the money involved in financing his secret marriage. This document tells us about events from Francis’s perspective and suggests that Ambrose Coppinger may have been implicated in events.
