Date:19th of February 1823

Description:In February 1823 the Marquis of Stafford's Estate Agent William Lewis wrote to Colliery Agent Joseph Burgess at Foley Coal Office with news of Estate business.

Within the letter Lewis refers to an 'old couple' living on the Trentham Estate. Burgess had refused to allow a pig to be killed to support the elderly couple, and Lewis advises him to change his mind, remarking 'don't be too hard with them poor creatures'.
