Date:3rd of August 1807

Description:In August 1807 the Marquis of Stafford's Colliery Superintendant Thomas Heath wrote to Mr. Kite about finding work for labourers who had been 'so useful in the Harvest'. Concerned about the 'hardship' which the labourers would face if unemployed, Heath suggested putting them to work on roads, taking up fences and digging ditches.
