Description:This undated document describes terms and conditions of employment at the Sutherland collieries.

Every sound good workman to have 2 shillings and 6d per day in proportion, also coal in proportion running together “abligals” running together 6d per week in lieu of burner coal. If he does not choose to carry them in which case no complementary shall be paid by allowing a workman more than a reasonable quantity so as to be a perquisite or more than sufficient for his own house fire or finally not more than a fair corful.

No workman shall be employed at any of the concerns without first producing a note from his last master of his discharge, other wise if it should so happen that a workman has got employment under a charter master. Contrary to the knowledge of the proprietor or managing agent upon application being made in writing to the said proprietor or his or their managing agent. He shall be immediately discharged or in failure there of forfeit £10 to the party aggrieved, there should be the same consideration respecting workmen wilfully neglecting their labour.
