Description:One plan in the Sutherland Papers from 1867 shows ‘Property Adjoining the Town of Longton in the Parish of Trentham as Laid out for Building Purposes’. The property belonged to George Granville William Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (1828-1892), the third Duke of Sutherland.
The plan shows new streets and building lots adjoining the Grosvenor and Belgrave Roads in Longton. Pencilled annotations on the plan show the proposed location of new ‘Municipal Buildings’ at the junction of Grosvenor and Rosslyn Roads adjoining Longton’s High Street.
This intricate printed plan illustrates the urban development which central Longton underwent during the nineteenth century.
