Description:Amongst the many plans of properties on Granville Leveson-Gower (1721-1803), the Marquis of Stafford’s estates is a plan made in 1797 of ‘the Potwork and Premises of Mr Robert Garner at Lane End’. The plan shows Mr. Garner’s property alongside the Shraffbank Waterpit, the Rickyard, Paddock, Shrubbery-Walk and Kitchen-Garden which were added to his premises in 1797. This suggests that Garner’s potworks had been economically successful, enabling him to expand his business to include a Waterpit and Rickyard.

The plan demonstrates the increase of industrial premises in North Staffordshire during this period. The size and scale of Garner’s Potworks are given, and the location of the property which was situated on the Turnpike road from Newcastle to Uttoxeter in Lane End. The land adjoined Part of the yard belonging to Lane End Chapel and the Bowling Green.
