Date:7th of March 1815

Description:In March 1815 James Loch, the Duke of Sutherland's Chief Estate Agent, wrote to estate agent Mr. Burgess about the 'projected railway' at Lane End. He asked Burgess to investigate the proposal, especially 'any attempt to carry it to join the railway in existence by any course other than through Lord Stafford's Millfield Gate Farm'.

Eager to find out more about the proposed railway, Loch adds at the end of his letter 'it is better to be a little overactive than too slothful'.
