Description:Richard Leveson was the son of James Leveson (c.1500-1547)and his first wife Alice Wrotteseley (d. 1525), daughter of Sir Richard Wrottesley of Wrottesely. The Sutherland Papers includes Richard's original will from 1560 and an inventory of his property made in 1561. These documents are very detailed, providing information about Richard Leveson’s financial position and the places in which he owned land. Richard Leveson’s will also tells us about family relationships within the Leveson family.

Unlike the wills of his predecessors in the Leveson family, Richard Leveson’s will doesn’t begin with religious content. The will doesn’t state where Leveson wished to be buried or declare the committal of his soul to ‘allmighty God’ until after stating his bequests relating to the lands which he owned.
