Description:The document above is a summary of weaponry for 1000 footemen made in September 1598. The document tells us that there were 667 men armed with pikes, and 333 armed with ‘shot’, 222 in the form of ‘muskette’ and 111 in the form of ‘callivers’. The document indicates that both swords and guns were used in battle with the enemy at this time.

The document also describes how the 1000 men were divided into companies of 150 with a variety of these weapons distributed amongst each company. A ‘pyke’ appears to have been the most popular, and probably most economical, choice with 100 men out of the 150 being assigned this form of weaponry.
