Description:A letter from John Bishton dated 1st April 1809 to Reverend Thomas Butt describes land 'that the Marquis of Stafford has given to Lane End Chapel'.

After the Act of Parliament made in 1792 for enlarging the existing Chapel, improvements continued to be made to places of worship in Longton with George Granville Leveson-Gower (1758-1833), the Marquis of Stafford, giving land to the Chapel in Lane End.

The letter describes a 'new ffence' around the land which was to be made by Mr. Garner or Mr. Cottrell in
Longton.

John Bishton's letter includes a sketch of the land detailed which belonged to the Marquis of Stafford, and to Mr. Garner who occupied a house and pot works on the location. Bishton writes that 'the corner of land' shown above the section marked '98' on the plan was the land given by the Marquis for the Chapel.
