Description:The Sutherland Papers contain a number of papers relating to various aspects of life at West Hill between 1825 and 1833. Amongst these papers is a document listing repairs which were needed at West Hill, produced ‘for Lord Staffords Aprobation’. The list includes annotations by George Granville Leveson-Gower, Lord Stafford (1758-1833), stating whether he approved of the repairs or not.

The jobs listed include repairs to ‘the wash house roof’, which was ‘quite decayed’, the roof of the Milk House, that was also ‘in a very bad state’, and the stables, which wanted ‘painting outside’. Lord Stafford approved repairs to the roof of the Milk House, however, he suggested that the ‘Roof and Gutters’ of the stables should only be repaired ‘if quite necessary’.
