Description:The Inventory of West Hill made in 1824 describes the working gardens on the estate, telling us about the fruit and flowers produced there. The Inventory lists a ‘melon ground’ which had ‘3 light Melon frames with glazed lights’ for the growing of melons. A flower house, apple and seed room and also a small flower garden also featured on the lands. The gardens at West Hill appear to have been used primarily for growing fruits suited to a hot climate. In addition to the melon ground, there were a number of ‘Hot Houses’ used to grow peaches and grapes.
