Description:A letter from George Kent, the Town Clerk in Longton, thanks the Duke for his ‘generous offer to present the Borough with a site for Municipal Buildings.’

The Duke offered the Borough some land on the Stone Road for the facility. The Corporation had employed some mining engineers and communicated with the Local Government Board to examine the suitability of the site as a place ‘for new municipal buildings’. Kent forwarded relevant papers concerning the matter to the Duke asking for his opinion.
