Date:19th of August 1872

Description:The letter above was sent to Mrs. Ingram, the Housekeeper at Trentham Hall, by Mr. Prentice from Dunrobin Castle in Sutherland. Prentice was the Clerk to the Duke of Sutherland’s Accountant and often wrote to Mrs. Ingram regarding financial business. Many of his letters include remarks about his family and events at Stafford House or Dunrobin Castle. In the letter above he writes ‘I suppose we shall soon be busy when the Queen comes here’, referring to a visit by Queen Victoria to Dunrobin. In other letters he tells Mrs. Ingram that the Sutherland family were hosting two balls at Dunrobin, reflecting the social importance of the family.
