Description:The image above shows a poster advertising the sale of the Duke of Sutherland’s lands in Ketley in 1894. Ketley formed part of the Duke’s Lilleshall Estate comprising of 834 acres of lands, farms and cottages. The Lilleshall Estate was sold off in public auctions and through private sales between 1894 and 1922.
The poster tells us that the whole of the Ketley estate was freehold, and included farms, two large residences, two licensed inns and 365 cottages with gardens.
The farms on the Ketley estate are described as being ‘in a high state of cultivation’ and were let to substantial tenants at moderate rates. The poster states that Ketley offered ‘a desirable opportunity to capitalists’.
