Description:The statement featured above relates to the management of ‘Trentham Home Farm’ on the Duke of Sutherland’s Trentham Estate. The statement was produced to examine the management of the farm and provides a summary of receipts in cash for produce sold and tells us about the produce which the farm provided to Trentham Hall.

The statement lists the sorts of produce which the farm provided, including wheat, barley, oats, beans and potatoes and also milk for the dairy. The farm also provided ‘Meat to the poor on St. Thomas’s Day’. The farm had an interesting relationship with the dairy at Trentham Hall. The statement reveals that in return for the farm providing milk to the dairy, the dairy provided milk to the farm for feeding calves and pigs.

In 1859 the estimated value of stock at the farm amounted to over £3836. Almost three hundred pounds of this was for ‘Superior Short Horn and Ayrshire Cattle’. Other details on the statement tell us that allowances were made in the budget for ‘feeding sheep’.
