Description:Amongst papers relating to the remodeling of Trentham Hall in the 1830s is a ‘Report of Works’ which were being undertaken at the Hall. Dating 14th May 1839’, the report tells us about each room in the Hall, describing work which needed to be done to complete the interiors.
The report includes the two pair floor, the one pair floor, the ground floor and the basement, telling us about features in rooms on each of these floors.

The Two Pair Floor

The report tells us that the ‘painting and papering’ was finished in the Green Silk Room, and also in the Green Damask Room. New vein marble chimney pieces were to be fitted in both of these rooms and a new dove marble chimney piece was being fitted in the bedroom which adjoined the ‘Butterfly Dressing Room’.

Referring to the functional rooms on this floor, the report states that the seat and apparatus needed to be fixed in the water closet near the back stairs. The painting needed to be finished in a lot of rooms on this floor before the interiors could be completed.
