Description:The Estate Accounts in the Sutherland Papers form one of the most fascinating sections of the collection. Spanning over hundreds of years, these papers and volumes kept by agents working for the Leveson-Gower family provide a detailed insight into life on the Sutherland estates, particularly the Trentham estate in Staffordshire.

Accounts for the Trentham estate in the the eighteenth century tell us about payments and disbursements made by the estate, including expenditure on buildings and repairs, tradesmen’s bills, servant’s wages, husbandry and gardening. House expenses, accounts for the Stables and casual disbursements tell us about life at Trentham Hall during this period of expansion and industrial development on the Estate. A vast wealth of information about life on the Trentham Estate can be gained from examining these documents.
