Date:31st of January 1716 - 31st of January 1717 (c.)

Description:This document, dated 31st January 1716-1717, is addressed to ‘ye Constable of Trentham’and ‘ye Keeper of ye House of Correction at Stafford’.

Signed by E. Mainwaring, the document is a warrant committing a man named Edward Taylor to the Stafford House of Correction. The document describes Edward Taylor as ‘an Idle disorderley Pilfering Person’. Mainwaring's name occurs frequently amongst legal documents in the Sutherland Papers. His involvement in the cases relating to the sale of lands and theft of goods throughout the period indicates that he was a significant legal authority in Stafford in the early eighteenth century.

The warrant orders the Constable of Trentham to ‘convey’ Edward Taylor ‘to ye said house of Correction’ and instructs the Keeper of Stafford House of Correction ‘to Punish and set on Work’ for Taylor ‘for ye space of One Month’.
