Description:The document above is a conveyance of freehold estates in Swynnerton made in 1843. The conveyance was for land owned by 'Thomas Fitzherbert of Swinnerton' and the Duke of Sutherland in Shelton under Hareley which was situated within the Parish of Swynnerton.

The document describes the location of the estate in Swynnerton, which was bounded on the east side by the Grand Junction Railway. On the west of the estate was a brook running from Chorlton Mill to Hatton Mill adjoining lands already owned by the Duke of Sutherland. The turnpike road from Stone to Chester was on the south side of the estate.

The document reveals that George Granville Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (1786-1861), the second Duke of Sutherland, purchased land from Fitzherbert to expand his estates in Staffordshire, buying lands which adjoined those he already owned. The lands purchased included 'all Hedges Ditches Fences Ways Waters' and 'Watercourses'.
