Description:The Sutherland Papers contain many printed advertisements promoting local companies and their products. Amongst these is an advertisement for firegrates sold by Hanley ironmonger Arthur C. Prall.

Prall supplied the firegrate pictured above, the ‘Attingham Interior’ firegrate in a number of finishes, including ‘dull’ and ‘antique’. The grate also had an ‘adjustable iron canopy’.

A number of photographs of the firegrates supplied by Prall also survive in the collection, providing an insight into Hanley’s industrial history and the ironmongery trade in the early twentieth century.
